    Hi all,

Guess I’ll be the inaugural poster!

I have a separation anxiety case in an 8 month old Mastiff puppy. The owner is motivated and compliant with the behavior plan but I want to help them get started with medication if they can’t have someone home for a short period.

I normally might start with Alprazolam but because it is a control drug (reasons) and for a puppy, I thought Trazadone would be better. Can someone reassure me for use in this puppy?

I am not starting Clomipramine yet because I think they can be successful without a full time medication on board.

    Big thanks ahead of time!

    Carolyn

Thank you so much, Christine! I called it in and I’ll see them next week. Hoping we avoid another mutilated door!

    Hi Christine,

Can you tell us what dose of trazodone you are finding successful in puppies? Thanks!

This is Carolyn, not Christine, but I had also asked Dr. John Ciribassi and he recommended to start with 3 mg/kg/day.

    Hope that helps!
