I’ve been prescribing alprazolam, fluoxetine, and amitriptyline for a patient of mine (3 yo S/F Great Pyrenees mix, 64#) due to generalized anxiety for about 2 years. We’ve seen some improvement, but I have concerns about the chronic use of alprazolam. The owner gives it to her everyday. I worry sometimes that the owner may be using it herself (although ever since I let the owner know I need to limit refills, I’ve had less concern).

I’m interested in switching from alprazolam to a different benzodiazepine, such as clorazepate, and I just wondered if anyone on this forum has any thoughts about that to share. If I do 0.5 mg/kg, her dose will be 15 mg.

    Thanks in advance!
