    Hello all,

Assuming you agree, we received a wonderful offer and the email is below. My thought is to put it on the Home page to help boost our appeal for membership, as well as on the Membership benefits page and in the forums. I believe Terri handles this part but thought the Board should know and decide if anything further should be done. Newsletter? Social media?

Also, would you like me to write a thank you note or only if we get members? When?

    The email is below.

    Thank you,

    Carolyn

    Hi Carolyn –

I’m Sharon Madere, former Founder/CEO of Premier Pet Products.  It’s been a number of years since I attended the AVSAB Annual Meeting – must say I miss it!

A number of years ago I transitioned to full-time equine work, and am currently certified with IAABC.   I’ve had the opportunity to lecture/lead wet labs at a couple veterinary colleges on the topic of “Behavior Basics for Equine Veterinarians,” and one of my goals is to use education to increase safety and improve welfare.

In May, Ken McCort and I will be hosting a 3-day Advanced Training Workshop with Horses at my farm in Ocala, FL.  It will combine advanced theory lecture with hands-on training (approximately 20 horses) for increasing skills and timing.  We wanted to offer a 10% discount on the registration for any AVSAB members.  Do you have a process for letting your members know about this potential benefit for them?

    Thanks so much!

    Sharon Madere

I would think adding this to the member’s benefits page would be good and then to put it up temporarily on the home page should be fine. I would not leave on the home page for an extended time since it may set a bad precedent. You could also send a note about it on Mail Chimp.

I think it is a wonderful offer and so great that we are seeing more equine behavior educational opportunities. We certainly should promote this opportunity with or without the discount offer.

It sounds like it is a one time event so I do not know if it is really a member “benefit” unless this is going to be an annual event.  But I do like posting it as John has suggested but we would need to remember to remove it also from the benefits list if it not a long term offer for a recurring benefit.  It may also reach many of our members by just us sharing it on our member’s forum.

I used to be very good at following the member forum and it always used to pop up in my email when someone posted.  Do we still have that capability because I got out of the habit of checking in on the forum?  I honestly have forgotten to follow it.  Others may have too!  I need to remember what a great benefit the member forum is, especially for those new to behavior looking for support and guidance.

Sorry to be so late to the discussion. I don’t see a problem with offering this (or other discounts to our members) as long as what they are offering is inline with our mission.
