Interest in Animal Behavior
I teach first year veterinary students FearFree® and reduced stress handling techniques as well as co-coordinate a behavior elective for 2nd and 3rd year veterinary students which additionally includes feline unacceptable elimination, noise and storm phobia, separation anxiety in companion animals, behavioral case studies and more. I work with 4th year veterinary students mentoring and overseeing their care of clinical patients to our veterinary hospital.
I mentor final or 4th year veterinary students in our primary care clinic and see patients with a multitude of behavioral and training-related concerns.
Biography
I am a primary care practitioner with 23 years of experience in a multi-doctor small animal hospital followed by work as a clinical professor within a veterinary teaching hospital. I seek out 25-50 hours + of high quality continuing education annually in behavior taught by experts in the field and use this knowledge to manage canine and feline behavior patients as primary care behavior cases, as well as referrals for more challenging behavior cases.
I work with both positive reinforcement trainers and board certified veterinarians when needed for challenging cases, such as those involving aggression. I have experience in both environmental and the most up-to-date psychopharmacological therapies for patients with behavioral concerns.
I work with a FearFree® certified nursing staff to provide the lowest stress visit for our patients and clients each time they seek care in our clinic.
