After spending my first year in Colorado working as a relief veterinarian as well as providing home behavior consultations to pet owners, I have decided to put down roots at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital where I will continue to offer behavior services in addition to providing general preventive, medical, and surgical care.Academic Degrees, Schools & Dates:
Mississippi State University BS Animal Science 2002
Mississippi State University DVM 2005
Mississippi State University MS (focus on population and wildlife medicine) 2006Major Interest in Animal Behavior:
Through 15 years in small animal general practice I grew to recognize what a profound negative effect behavior "challenges" have on the bond between pet and owner. I also recognized that without proper education many pet owners fail to recognize the degree of their pets fear or the effects that anxiety is having on their pet's behavior and quality of life. I realized that my oath to improve pet well being necessitated addressing these behavioral issues as well as traditional health issues.
I’ve had interest in training my pets since I was a kid. In my general practice, I’ve come to realize how important preventing and addressing fear and anxiety related problems are to minimizing suffering in my patients. I’ve been challenged to help clients recognize how these issues affect their pets and recognize that I (and other professionals) can help them. I continue to explore how I might continue to grow my passion for animal behavior and helping pets and their owners. In my role at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital, I am continually considering the ways we might better serve the behavioral health of our patients.
I am very interested in preventing behavior issues before they start - consulting with puppy owners to address potential concerns can be most rewarding. I also work with pet owners to work through house soiling issues, separation anxiety, reactive behavior, and other fear based issues.
