Veterinary behaviorist Dr. Sophia Yin was an excellent speaker and writer who conveyed a clear understanding of behavioral principles as they are applied to the behavior of pet dogs. Her influence in the world of dog training and behavior therapy is broad and she will be dearly missed by many. Over the next week or two, I will be sharing several selections of writing on dog behavior from her website, drsophiayin.com.

In this post, Dr. Yin discusses the controversy surrounding the concept of dominance as it plays out in dog training theory and practice. The information presented here, complete with excellent video selections, is of such fundamental importance and such broad application value that it could and should serve as a fundamental teaching unit for pet behavior professionals and dog owners alike.
